Talk:Sean-nós singing

This Sean-Nós Song content used to be under the broader, upper level category of "Sean Nós" without distinction to whether it was for Sean-Nós Song and Sean-Nós Dance. Given that the two are distinct, it made sense to create separate pages for each and then have a disambiguation page between the two. Any Wikidedia referring pages to the original "Sean Nós" page have been "fixed" by distinguishing whether it was dance or song. Therefore, within Wikipedia there are no broken links and the disambiguation page will aid any external referring links. Also, a page for "Sean Nós and Sean-nós Activities" was added "on the side" to address terminology issues, for those rare souls who care about when to use the spelling Sean Nós (noun form) versus Sean-nós (adjectival form). Additionally, redirect pages were added to deal with those who don't know which spelling to use—or don't know how to get their system to create the special character "ó" (an "o" with the accent/diacritical mark).

In the past, the Sean Nós article has experienced bad edits in which worthwhile information was lost, and nobody noticed. Often the substance of certain sentences was removed while their shells were retained, as a result of which the present article is rather nonsensical in places. Spring clean ar an nós nua!

I think this article has improved significantly since I looked at it a couple of years ago. It had quite a lot of unsubstantiated, confusing and blatantly false information in it, which I have removed. Anything, questionable I intend to put in a request for a citation. In general, only information substantiated by scholarly research rather than personal opinion should be included so that the article can be solidly built upon and, hence, relied upon satisfactorily. maybe a stupid request

maybe, if someone knows, they can add the Irish Gaelic pronunciation of Sean-nós at the very beginning in the same parentheses as (Irish for "old style"). it may be a stupid request, i was just reading the article and found that i don't know the pronunciation and i'm sure there are others who do not know what it is. so if anyone knows the Irish Gaelic pronunciation it would be helpful if it were added.

No, not stupid; a Mhuire dhílis! So, as fas as I as a German/Bavarian have it in mind, the stress is on "sean", which is pronounced somewhat like "shan" (not to be confused with "Seán/Shawn"), and "nós" has a long, closed O, so no British, but perhaps Anglo-Irish O in "nose", where again the S is not voiced, rather like in "mice".
