Ivan Ivanić (Bačko Gradište, Bečej, April 24, 1867 — Belgrade, Kingdom of Yugoslavia, January 31, 1935)[1] was diplomat of the Kingdom of Serbia and author of numerous works about ethnic groups in Serbia and Balkans. He was also author of travel literature which described his travels in the region of Old Serbia (especially Kosovo and Metohija and the Macedonia).

Biography

He began his diplomatic career being scribe in the consulate of Kingdom of Serbia in Priština.[2]

Ivanić was vice consul and consul of Kingdom of Serbia in Priština and Skopje (Kosovo Vilayet).[3] Ivanić was later appointed as consul in Bitola (then Monastir Vilayet). He participated in each public and secret support Serbia provided to Macedonian rebels against Ottoman Empire.[4] He met his wife Delfa, who was one of the founders of the Kolo Srpskih Sestara, in Skopje where she was a teacher in period 1900—1903.

On November 29, 1912 he was appointed on the posion of the first governor of the Durrës County while his wife Delfa governed the city hospital in Durrës.[5][6]

Besides his work as diplomat, Ivanić was editor of numerous magazines published on Serbian language. In April 1887 he became editor of "Sremac".[7] Ivanić was one of two editors of the first issue of the magazine "Vardar".[8] He also edited magazine "Golub" which was published in 1905 in Istambul and distributed to Serbs in Ottoman Empire.[9]

Ivanić added his personal notes in works about Kosovo, Macedonia and Serbian orthodox church and those notes were subject of different opinions of later researchers.[10]
