Using Wikipedia for advertising or promotion.

Dear Andy,

Thank you for your comments however I am confused can you please help me meet you criteria for a good wikipedia page. I have always tried to maintain integrity on this page and I do not want nor intend to use Wikipedia as advertising just a record of my exhibition, achievements and charity donations.

Regarding meeting notability criteria,

I am the only Visual Artist / photographer to exhibit at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show to date with a concept garden dedicated to their work. I am the only UK based Visual Artist / photographer producing work at sizes up to 10' x 5' My charitable donations total £30,000 GBP the in particular The Children’s Acute Transport Service donation in June of this year was their largest single donation nearly £13,000 GBP and came from the sale of one photograph. I can provide proof of all donations if you need them. The Marie Curie Cancer Care Auction at The Royal Academy of Arts 2011 which was by Invitation saw my work appear alongside Barbara Rae, Sara Rossberg, Prof Ken Howard, Prof Chris Orr, Mary Fedden, Damien Hirst, Dame Elizabeth Blackadder and Sir Hugh Casson most of whom have Wikipidea pages of their own.. The PhotoVoice Auction of Exceptional Photographs 2010 which was by Invitation saw my work appear alongside top contemporary photographers most of whom have Wikipedia pages of their own. I am the only landscape photographer to have had two west end solo shows ever. These are not self funded show but curated shows by a gallery with a 30 year pedigree. At my 2009 solo show I produced the largest picture of it's kind ever finished in the UK. At my 2011 solo show I produced the first ever circular pictures of there kind. I am the only Irish born photographer to exhibit at Art London, London Art Fair and Affordable Art fair in the same year, other than Frieze these are the top Art Fairs of their kind in the UK and are Highly vetted. This year will be my fourth taking part in most of these fairs My sold out works are equivalent to half a million pounds worth of retail sales and it is only a matter of time before my work appears on the secondary market trough private auctions and in this context I feel it is important to list them.

Again I don't understand why you have deleted recent links on charity websites I have indeed donated the proceeds of my work to them and I had included links to Justgiving.com website where you can see the actual donations made.

Regarding awards - the information there is all correct, I understand some come under Shortlisted or Finalist but I think these statements are clear and I can provide proof of awards if you need them.

  • First of all, you should not be creating articles about yourself - see WP:COI. And secondly, it's not enough that references should be true, they should also be important. Thank you for the pointers, aside from creating the page myself which was a misunderstanding on my part, do you not agree in the context of Art / Photography and charity fundraising a lot of these achievements are important.

You deleted a link back on 'Marie Curie Cancer Care' ! Having my work included along side Damien Hirst and Sir Hugh Casson at the The Royal Academy which is the ultimate art institution in the UK if not the world. Having been involved with them I am now working with them to use my work in the recently commissioned Solihull Hospice. Lady Cotton, Specialist Projects Leader has personally asked me because she can see the difference to patients my work can make. Again to consider my artwork in the context of Complementary therapy is again important not only to the Art world but anyone suffering from cancer/terminal illness.

Similarly you called links on The Children’s Acute Transport Service 'self promotion' this was their largest single donation nearly £13,000 GBP and came from the sale of one photograph. Surely this is important information and not self promotion as you say?

In fact all the links on the charity pages were provided as my page was considered orphan because I wasn't linked back to by other Wikipedia pages it is my contention that these links are valid and should stand?

I have stated my case in my previous message and again here, if you still think I don't deserve a mention on Wikipedia then delete away.

  • It's not a question of deleting for the sake of deleting. Wikipedia has policies and guidelines. I mentioned two of them above. As for self promotion what could be clearer? You wrote the main article about yourself and you edited articles to inform people about what you'd done. In fact you added this material in several articles where it was not relevant to the main purpose of the article. andy (talk) 11:10, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

E-Book

Andy,

I haven't seen you make comments regarding deleting my edits on the page in question [e-book] so I thought I would start a dialog with you here.

I'd appreciate it if you could advise me on how best to update the e-book in page to correct the inaccuracies it contains and to also, perhaps, include additional listings of e-book awards including the one that I proudly represent.

You see, the e-book page says there are two e-book awards out there and it's just not true.

The e-book page currently says: Two yearly awards for excellence in e-books are the EPIC eBook Award[37] (formerly EPPIE) given by EPIC, and the Dream Realm Award[38] for science fiction, fantasy and horror e-books. Both awards have been given since 2000.

Here are other awards that indicate that "Two yearly awards" is incorrect because they are not listed and so not counted:

MULTIPLE FORMAT AWARDS

These are for awards for ebooks that are in more than just ebook format but many of them will accept ebooks:

So, I think it's safe to say that by trying to update the e-book page to show there are more than "two yearly awards" is actually an altruistic move on my part.

And, if it's good form for Wikipedia to actually show a list of these ebooks, then we should include more of them. If these two that are listed should not be listed, then they should all be deleted so that no one awards competition gets more value than another by being listed here instead of not.

What say you?

MA in philosophy = expert in physics?

She is so notable in her community, that AT&T uses her for directed marketing: [1]. I think we should be careful to avoid biases against people not of European descent who mostly speak to communities that don't speak English. If we can have this John Elway Stadium, notable only for being named after a legendary football star who went to the high school it was built for two whole years, I fail to see how she fails the criteria. I am sorry that I have not had time before to discuss with You all these things. I am gonna have to say that first of all, I find some Your comments rather offending especially Your words "wild speculations"and "apparently feasible, if somewhat dodgy, proposed technology". I am the creator of all topics related to Alexander Mayboroda and his amazing inventions etc etc. Being humble and meek Alexander Mayboroda did not want me (I am his well-wisher) to put this up on Wikipedia, but i insisted on it for a number of reasons. First of all, one has to be qualified to judge whether a technology is applicable or not whether it is dodgy or not. I appreciate Your interest in space related topics but ARE YOU QUALIFIED TO MAKE THIS TYPE OF JUDGMENT? Alexander Mayboroda has been granted two patents by WHOM? by he Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks. Marwick was granted patents by the American Authorities...Just to let You know (if You ask me) that Russia has been number one in terms of space stuff. So are You saying that You know more than the russian space authorities who grant patents? If so. God bless You...I dont believe You. If you are saying that it is all rubbish...Can You give me Your calculations refuting the numbers given in Mayboroda's projects? I would also like to complaint against laziness of some other people who although do not want to figure out how wipo web-site works, however, make very bold statements...or just because they do not know the original language of an article they claim it to be false...Is this democracy? Those people live in Germany (a "democratic" country ) and they do not show any respect to the main principal of democracy which is the presumption of innocence. Please,kindly note that the article about Accumulating space device (ASD) has not been finished yet and needs citations...I have tried to put citations but it did not work for some reason..maybe you have already blocked me..

E-book device use on airliners

I was surprised that you reverted my contribution. I think it is a well known fact that the use of electrical devices are disallowed during takeoff and landing. Thank you. I understand... Re: Reliability of Source. The source itself references to a reliable source, which is the book by Pinson, Linda. (2004). Anatomy of a Business Plan: A Step-by-Step Guide to Building a Business and Securing Your Company’s Future (6th Edition). Page 20. Dearborn Trade: Chicago, USA. I presume that hence the source is reliable, but otherwise the book by Pinson Linda must count as a reliable source, in which case I wonder if her book details could be put as the source in that edit entry?
