Guru Nanak Institute of Technology is an engineering college located in West Bengal, India. The college was established in 2003 by the JIS Group, in Panihati, Sodpur, a suburb of Kolkata. The college is an AICTE-approved institution and is affiliated to West Bengal University of Technology.[1][2][3]
The Campus
The Guru Nanak Institute of Technology(GNIT) campus is located on Nilgunj Road,in Sodpur,at a walking distance of 7 minutes from Sodpur Railway Station on 4,0468 square metres of land The college shares the campus with other sister colleges of JIS Group, such as the Guru Nanak Institute of Dental Sciences and Research, a pharmaceutical college, and hospitality management college.
The engineering college has one main U shaped building. An adjacent building is used for workshop practicals. The left side section of the first floor of the college consists of the computer labs, like RDBMS labs, computer language labs, networking labs etc. The Department of Electrical Engineering has its labs mainly in the ground floor, like the Electrical Machine labs, Control System labs, Thermal Power labs etc etc.
Research and Placement
Placement has always been poor in this institute with an overall percentage of less than 10%. Many students have also taken up post graduation courses in various institutes. In the year 2008-2009 some of the students were placed in Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Tech Mahindra,L&T Software,Infogen Global,Assurgent. In the year 2010 few students were placed in Tata Consultancy Services, Capgemini, Patni which were on-campus recruitment & on Wipro as an off-campus recruitment.
Companies like TCS, Tech Mahindra, Global Logics, American Megatrends India Pvt. Ltd., Oracle Financial Services Software Limited, Johnson Controls, KPIT Cummins,Huawei Technologies, CMC have organized pool campus for JIS group and recruited students.
Academics
GNIT offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various engineering,as well as computer applications disciplines.[4] The college offers B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication Engineering,Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, Food Technology as well as professional degree courses in computer applications like [Master of Business Administrations] Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) and Master of Computer Applications (MCA). The Institute has added the Department of Business Administrations from the year 2010 with the objective of delivering very high class management education. All the courses are affiliated to the West Bengal University of Technology, Salt Lake, West Bengal. There are about 75 faculty members in the various departments.Most of the faculties are not up to the mark in their knowledge and teaching skills.M.Tech students are hired on large by the management to save money.
Games & Sports
The College has an common ground which is being shared by the other JIS group colleges like Guru Nanak Institute of Dental science & Research,Guru Nanak Institute of Hotel Management,Pharmacy & Hospital management. Many Inter-College tournaments have been organized on the college ground.Most recent was the 2008 Inter-college Football meet.The ground has also witnessed many Inter-Stream & Intra-Stream tournaments which are organized every year with the full support of Hods & teachers of respective Streams.

GNIT offers indoor games as well. It has an common room as which provide games like Table Tennis and Carom.
Hostel Facilities
GNIT provides hostel facilities but they are situated outside the Campus except the Girls Hostel which is situated inside the Campus. Hostel for Boys are divided on the basis of year. Each year has different Hostel of their own. Each Hostel have Broadband facility for the Students. Facilities are reviewed each month through Hostel warden & the Registrar of the college.
