Big Sur is a forthcoming film, set for release in 2012, which is based on the autobiographical novel Big Sur by Beat Generation poet and novelist Jack Kerouac. The director is independent filmmaker Michael Polish. The film was in post-production as of August 2011.[1][2][3][4][5]

Casting and production

The cast includes Josh Lucas as Neal Cassady, Kate Bosworth, Radha Mitchell as Carolyn Cassady, Henry Thomas as Philip Whalen, Anthony Edwards as Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Balthazar Getty as Michael McClure, Patrick Fischler as Lew Welch, Stana Katic as Lenore Kandel, and Jean-Marc Barr as Kerouac.[6]

Much of the filming was in Monterey County, California, including Big Sur, where the events of the novel took place.[7]

Differences between the novel and film

The novel uses pseudonyms for the author and his fellow writers. The film uses the writers' real names. Not present in the casting list are actors portraying Gary Snyder and Alan Watts, who appear in the novel.
