Saxobeats is the debut studio album by Romanian dance/pop singer Alexandra Stan. The album was released on August 29, 2011 on Play On/Jeff Records in France, following a worldwide release step-by-step until early 2012. Three singles were spawned from the album: "Get Back (ASAP)", "Lollipop (Param Pam Pam)" and the worldwide number-one hit "Mr. Saxobeat". The album contains thirteen tracks (eight distinct song plus five remixes)[4] The tracks on the album tackle various genres (mainly dance, synthpop, Hi-NRG, pop and R&B) as well as a collaboration with rapper Carlprit.

Background and development

In 2011, Alexandra Stan received a recording track from a record label. In the past she has participated in various music-related contests with a notable appearance at the Mamaia Festival section interpretation, Romania's most known festival. Because of this, she was contacted and joined by Maan Studio, who consisted Marcel Prodan and Andrei Nemirschi, who are also her producers. She had recorded her first single "Lollipop". However, the single did not chart in any charts, but did receive success worldwide online. The single was release on Romanian Radio's. Stan was later signed to the independent electronic dance music record label Ultra Records.[5]

In an interview during a concert in Czech Republic, Stan announced that the album works and writing is finished. She also stated that the album will hold only ten songs, which are already finished.[6]

Recordings and composition

In an interview, Stan said that most of her songs are "part of my life and they are telling a different story." She said "The album will be very diversified and I’ll approach many genres.". Most of the songs on the album are related to Alexandra in different ways.[7] The album features various forms of electronic music; specifically house and eurodance.[citation needed] The track "One Million" was released both through Stan's own website and through her label's youtube channel. The track is a R&B-inspired song and features Zimbabwe-born German rapper and actor, Carlprit.[citation needed] The nu-disco song "Show Me The Way" was also released on her record label's youtube channel.[citation needed] Following on from these, Stan recorded her third single "Get Back (ASAP)" which was released as her third single from the album. The song touches on eurodance, europop, pop and the electropop genres throughout.[citation needed] Two versions were released for the song, a "Mann Extended Version" and the newer studio version, which was the version chosen for the main single release.

Singles

"Mr. Saxobeat" was released as the lead single of the album on February 24, 2011. It was a worldwide success peaking at number-one in at least twelve countries and inside the top-five in other fifteen countries, including the United Kingdom, Spain or New Zealand. In France and Ireland it peaked at number-six. The single had also reached the top forty in Australia, Canada and in the Billboard Hot 100.

"Get Back (ASAP)" was released as the second international single on March 19, 2011. It has charted at number four in Romania and at number nineteen in France. The US and UK release is yet to come.

"Lollipop (Param Pam Pam)" was originally released as a promotional single in 2009. The song charted within the Romanian Top 100 in 2010. It was then released in the United States on May 31, 2011 as the second official single (third overall).
