Was this show inspired by "The Practice"?

In the 1970's, Danny Thomas starred in a short-lived sitcom called "The Practice." He played an elderly doctor whose patients were mostly lower middle-class (if my memory serves me correctly). I've always been struck by the similarities between that show and "Becker": grumpy doctor, sassy nurse, dimwitted receptionist, etc. Even the names of the doctors were similar (Danny Thomas' character was named "Jules Bedford").
