Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (Template:Te) (born 17 February 1954), abbreviated KCR, is a member of the 15th Lok Sabha of India. He is a Member of Parliament from the Mahaboobnagar constituency of Andhra Pradesh and is the president of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.[1] He was the cabinet minister for Labour and Employment.
Early life
Rao was born in Chintamadaka village in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh.[2][3] He attained a Masters in Telugu Literature .[4]
Political career
He lost once in 1983 assembly elections.He was elected as a MLA in 1985 from Telugu Desam Party.He served as the cabinet minister. He was a member of the Telugu Desam Party and served as Deputy Speaker until he resigned from the party due to differences with then Chief minister Chandra Babu Naidu. [5]
TRS party formation
He formed the Telangana Rashtra Samithi for the cause of Telangana as a separate state. TRS fought the 2004 general elections in alliance with Congress. It was able to win 5 MP seats. TRS was part of the UPA coalition government led by Congress until it had withdrawn its support citing the reason that UPA was not in a mood to give nod for separate Telangana state.[6] In 2009, it fought the general elections part of the opposition coalition.
Personal life
K. Chandrashekhar Rao is married to Shobha {Daughter of well-known Freedom Fighter J.Keshava Rao, Kodurpaaka} and has two children, a son K. T. Rama Rao, a legislator, and daughter Kavitha.[7] His nephew Harish Rao is Member of Legislative Assembly for the Siddipet constituency.
