The Thornbury Turf Strokers Cricket Club

The Thornbury Turf Strokers is a Cricket Club playing in the Mercantile Cricket Association [1], Sunday League. It welcomes players of all skills and backgrounds. Its home ground is the picturesque Corben Oval, located in Fairfield Melbourne.


History

The Strokers began existence as an indoor team in 2004. In was formed at the start of the 2009/2010 season and entered one team in the MCA C Sunday League. At the end of the 2010/2011 Seasons the club played in its first ever final, however this season ended when a thunder storm washed out the game.

The Club achieved success in the 2011/12 when it one the Premiership of the Sunday C Grade competition [2], winning against one of the oldest Cricket Clubs in Australa (The Cargenie Cricket Club established in 1906)[3]

Club facts

The club has a latin motto 'In Gramen Nos Ictus' which translates roughly to 'Along the turf we stroke.'

The Strokren (plural form of 'Stroker') eagerly await the irregular publications of club “periodical” The Stroker, to stay abreast of club gossip and slander. The Strokren launch each season with a concert that demonstrates that its musical talent gives little grounds to its prodigious capabilities on the cricket field.

Each season finishes with a Stroker Big Bash (a Twenty20 knockout format), where teams selected through an IPL style auction battle each-other and intoxication for sweet Big Bash Glory.
