The Thornbury Turf Strokers is a Cricket Club playing in the Mercantile Cricket Association [1], Sunday League. On its website, it states that it welcomes players of all skills and backgrounds. Its home ground is Corben Oval, located in Fairfield Melbourne.

History

The Thornbury Turf Strokers were formed at the start of the 2009/2010 season and entered one team in the MCA C Sunday League. At the end of the 2010/2011 Seasons the club played in its first ever final, however this season ended when a thunderstorm washed out the game.

The Club achieved its first premiership success in the 2011/12 when it won the Premiership of the Sunday C Grade competition [2], winning against one of the oldest Cricket Clubs in Australa (The Cargenie Cricket Club established in 1906)[3]

From the Thornbury Turf Strokers Website: [4]
* The Stroker loves revelry and the friendly sledge, while exhibiting professionalism, responsibility and sportsmanship.
* The Strokren wear the Green and Black with pride, honour and passion.
* The Stroker craves success and knows that it is best achieved and enjoyed by maintaining its equality, inclusiveness and camaraderie.

Club facts

The club has a latin motto In Gramen Nos Ictus which translates roughly to 'Along the turf we stroke.' The Strokren launch each season with a concert that demonstrates that its musical talent gives little grounds to its prodigious capabilities on the cricket field. Each season finishes with a Stroker Big Bash (a Twenty20 knockout format), where teams selected through an IPL style auction dress in themed outfits and take on each other on a tournament that is completed within one day. The 2012 Big Bash was won by a team dressed as punks.
