Demographics
The demographics section contains grossly incorrect (in fact, inconsistent) data. It needs to be updated from the new census data. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.253.26.10 (talk) 18:17, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
This says "As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 6,230 people, 12,398 households, and 11,395 families residing in the city." This makes no sense, as there can't possibly be more households than people.
General poor quality
There should at least be a mention of the Dozier school. Methinks some upset citizens are getting in the way of that.
Most of the Dozier material on this page should be moved to another article or deleted entirely. The writing is sub-standard and the point-of-view is questionable.
The story of the plane crash sure is exciting, y'all!, but it isn't appropriate for a Transportation section. (I'm not convinced that the Marianna article even justifies a Transportation section.) It also lacks citations.
The Claude Neal story should be given some context; the brutality might slightly exceed that of the typical lynching, but that is not the significance of the event. The PBS article cited provides some insight that is lacking from the description in the Marianna article.
As a whole, the Marianna article is lacking in citations and links to other Wikipedia articles.
- I second almost everything you say. Isn't Neal the one "famous" for cursing the court house clock? I'm tempted to say "Not that wiki would care" but actually in the context of this article it might be worth mentioning. On the subject of lynching if I remember a story about my great grandfather right I belive Marianna might have been host to Florida's last "offical" lynching (which is to say a large public mob, as opposed to a klan style murder). I can't cite any sources, puts it's something I've always heard if anyone can back that up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.159.89.194 (talk) 14:47, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Deleted
I deleted the phrase "The Chipola River runs through the heart of Marianna", as it actually marks the eastern boundry. While I suspect some peotic meaning was implied, and many if not the bulk of the local busniesses are on the other side of that boundry, the article is likely to be taken litteraly and the wording suggests the river runs through the middle of town. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.159.89.194 (talk) 14:57, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
