Springfield Armory, Inc. is a firearms manufacturer based in Geneseo, Illinois.

Formation

In 1974, the Springfield Armory brand name was purchased by Robert Reese, who formed a new company to manufacture semi-automatic versions of the M14 rifle. This company, now owned and run by Reese's sons, manufactures a wide array of firearms under the Springfield Armory name. However, the company is not located near the former armory site; it is now located in Geneseo, Illinois.

Products

The company manufactures the XD pistol series, M1911 clones, and the M14-based M1A Rifle series.

Rob Leatham has been the captain of Team Springfield, the practical shooting team, since its inception in 1985.

Political Involvement

Springfield, Inc. has played a major role in vocally opposing Gov. Rod Blagojevich's proposed assault weapons ban by threatening to leave Illinois along with Armalite, Rock River Arms, Les Baer and other Illinois-based firearms manufacturers.
