Russell Robinson, Jr. (born January 24, 1986) is an American basketball player with JSF Nanterre in French Pro A.[1] Prior to his move to Europe, Robinson played with the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Development League, where he wore number 11.[2] Robinson played for the University of Kansas in college for four seasons, including the 2007-08 national championship team. Before moving to the developmental league, he played with Erdemir Zonguldak in Turkey. He is now playing for Trabzonspor (Turkey).
Early years
Russell Robinson was born to Thearesa Watson and Russell Robinson, Sr. in the Bronx, New York. Robinson attended Rice High School in New York City, where he was coached by Maurice Hicks. As a junior, he led his team with 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals per game. His senior year, he averaged 22 points and eight rebounds. During his senior year he was the New York Newsday Manhattan Player of the Year, a New York Daily News All-City Team selection, a CHSAA All-City Team honoree, and a McDonald's All-American. Known for his ability to score as a high school guard, Robinson wore the number 23.[3]
Professional career
Robinson after going undrafted in the 2008 NBA Draft, Robinson signed with Houston Rockets. He was later cut by the Rockets.
Robinson was drafted in the second round of the 2008 NBA Development League Draft by the Reno Bighorns and averaged 11.0 points and 2.6 rebounds a game in Reno.
Robinson has been named to Team NBA in the 2009 NBA Asia Challenge, which was held in September 2009 in Seoul, South Korea and in Manila, Philippines.[4]
Robinson played with the Indiana Pacers in the Orlando Pro Summer League in 2010.
For the 2010-11 season, Robsinson played with DKV Joventut in Spain.[5]
For the 2011-12 season, Robinson has signed with the JSF Nanterre in Pro A (France first division).[6]
