Ab-Soul (born Herbert Anthony Stevens IV June 22 1987. [1]) is an American Hip hop artist from Carson, California currently signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, Aftermath .Ab-Soul is also a member of hip hop supergroup Black Hippy along with fellow West coast rappers and label mates Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q and Jay Rock. early life
Born in Carson, California Stevens parents owned a Record shop called Magic Disc Music. [3]. At the age of 10 Stevens contracted Steven Johnson syndrome which caused him to be hospitalised and is the origin of he black lips.
Stevens states The Autobiography of Malcolm X as one of the texts that enlightened him to most saying “It just taught me a lot about people, religion, society, possibilities in society, success, and things like that. From there, I’ve just been very observant about a lot of the major political figures or religious figures that we have and I’ve been keeping a close eye to [them]. It may seem transparent, but ultimately it’s very important to [draw your own conclusions].” [4]
