Clearly we have a difference of opinion – it is sad beyond words when one attempts to rewrite history by editing facts and calling those who attempt to accurately document history as “vandals”.

It should be noted, btw, that certain parties are referencing the unedited article here as part of a sales effort to sell more Shrike uppers on various electronic bulletin boards. Sad.

While the Shrike seems like a good idea, it's generally been received as a JOKE within the NFA community as there have been no relatively significant number of units shipped over the last 5+ years. Many people believe that the entire Shrike deposit scheme was actually a pyramid scheme to collect operating capital. Hmmm. I couldn't say for sure - but google on shrike and dickhead and you're likely to find lots of hits...

ARES Shrike

I have seen one, live, in person, after more than five years of broken promises on the part of ARES.

It didn't run at all. The problem was that the links had not been lubed with teflon lubricant.

Not reliable, it seemed to beat the heck out of the registered receiver that it was mounted on & it simply didn't run with standard links.

Ares has filed to deliver additional units since the first batch last year.

There has been extensive discussion about the Shrike on www.subguns.com, www.ar15.com and most other firearms websites with NFA sections. It also appears that this wikipedia entry is being used to sell units by some unscrupulous individuals.

I personally don't care about the ARES system, I'm a teenager who saw it in a videogame and looked it up on Wikipedia. However, this article seems to merely present a description and statistics of what the receiver should do, and red-highlighted blatantly POV statements added to the lead are uncalled for. I'm sure there are criticisms of the unit but to add such info it should be writting from a NPOV stance and be integrated (in normal color) into the body of the article.

On a side note, how come most of the text in the article shows up, word for word, here? That doesn't appear to be a mirror site so I'm wondering if there's some copyright infringement going on. -albrozdude 16:50, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And almost 6 years later, it's STILL virtually impossible to find a real live Shrike to photograph. Scam. Scam, scam, scam.

The Shrike 5.56 has been procured by at least one allied nation in the Middle East as "mission essential hardware" for a joint-US mission in the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT).^{[citation needed]} This info must be taken with a grain of salt.
