The Royal Film Commission of Jordan (RFC) [1] was established with a vision to develop an internationally competitive Jordanian film industry. The RFC reflects His Majesty King Abdullah II's resolve and commitment to having Jordan play a leading cultural and economic role, regionally and internationally. The RFC works towards building a solid Jordanian film industry and facilitating productions in Jordan.

History

RFC was founded in accordance with the Royal Film Commission Law No. 27 for the year 2003, approved by Law No. 22 issued by the Parliament of Jordan in 2008. The RFC is a financially and administratively autonomous Jordanian government organization led by a Board of Commissioners chaired by HRH Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein.

Film House

In 2006, an old Ammani villa built in 1930 in one of the oldest parts of the city, was acquired by the Board of the Royal Film Commission – Jordan (RFC) and turned into Jordan’s first center for the audio-visual arts. The Film House aims to develop the audio-visual industry while encouraging the emerging film culture in Jordan.

Training & Workshops

The center hosts educational workshops, training seminars and film screenings, offers access to a complete audiovisual library, as well as it hosts events with professionals from abroad, all meant to enrich and further the film industry in Jordan. The RFC develops learning environment in cinematic arts across Jordan and establishes programs that address the need for new and innovative methods of communication.

  1. Film Clubs: RFC has established three well-equipped film clubs in various Governorates (Sahab, Irbid, Aqaba, Zarqa) to enable Film clubs’ members to create their own stories and participate in community activities.
  2. Rawi Regional Screenwriters’ Lab: In 2005 RFC launched Rawi (Storyteller), a screenplay development lab, in consultation with the Sundance Institute. Independent Arab screenwriters are offered the chance to develop their work in a uniquely creative environment.
  3. Med Film Factory: Med Film Factory is an annual programme in three interrelated stages: a Producers' Coaching Program, a Directors' Workshop and an Independent Film Assembly.

RFC Provides the latest technologies available within the audio-visual industry:

  • An editing room with the latest technologies available within the audio-visual industry equipped with eight computer stations with full software.
  • An equipment bank to lend cameras, sound-recording and lighting equipment to filmmakers.
  • A film and media library.
  • A workshop area with screening equipment.

Membership

The RFC is a member of the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI). The (AFCI) is the official professional and educational organization for film commissions. AFCI Members assist feature, television, commercial, industrial and photography production throughout the world.
