"Spirit Indestructible" is a song by Canadian recording artist Nelly Furtado. The song was released on July 31, 2012 as the second single from her first english-language album in six years, The Spirit Indestructible. The song was written by Furtado and co-written and produced by Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins. It is an urban pop song, featuring hip hop beats and staccato percussion.

Background

In an interview Furtado described the song as a "tribute to the humanity"[1]. Spirit Indestructible was the first song Jerkins and Furtado did together. Her trip in Kenya, as an ambassador for charity Free The Children, helped her to write the song.

The song was released via digital download in Europe on July 31, 2012, in Germany on August 3rd[2], 2012 and plan to be released on August, 14 2012 in US[3] and Canada.

Composition

Spirit Indestructible was written by Furtado and co-written by Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins. The song is a pop song, featuring hip hop beats, staccato percussion in the same style of the lead single Big Hoops (Bigger The Better).

The theme of the song is tribute to the humanity. The track is opened by the lines:"Through my one square foot window, I can see outside / I have chains on my feet, but not in my mind."[4]

Music video

Background

The music video for Spirit Indestructible was filmed on June 15, 2012 at Grouse Mountain in Vancouver, British Columbia.[5] On July 13, 2012 Furtado uploaded via her YouTube acccount, a behind-the-scenes. The video was directed by Aaron.A, who worked on her video, Bajo Otra Luz. The video premiered on July 18, 2012 on VEVO.[6]

Synopsis

The video begins with Furtado singing in a stage accompanied by a little kid playing a piano and when the beat of music starts, Furtado suddenly is on a mountain. It features her dancing around a fire with dancers. The second part of the video shows her walking with drummers on the beach and dancing behind the blue sky wearing a golden dress.
