Early history
Shortly after manufacturing for a friend, a first experimental cast-iron electric crepe griddle in 1945, electrician Jean-Marie Bosser decided to launch his own crepe maker manufacturing company. Krampouz was thus created in 1949. The company first developed a full range of professional electric crepe makers for which it instantly became - and ever since remained - leader worldwide. Krampouz then, later on introduced professional gas crepe makers as well as domestic electric crepe makers.
Current situation
After the acquisition at the end of the twentieth century, of a Belgian waffle maker manufacturing company, Krampouz introduced a full range of cast-iron waffle makers. The company then developed more products, adding panini machine and carts to its professional range, and griddles to its domestic range. With the purchase of the company to the Bosser family by Serge Kergoat in 2006, Krampouz developed a new strategy focusing on increasing its presence in foreign markets.
Anecdote
Crepe makers are usually referred to as "billig" in the French western region of Brittany. Whereas it was originally simply the name of Krampouz best-selling domestic crepe griddle, due to its popularity in the area, this name has eventually fully replaced the word "crepe maker" there. "Billig" can even be found in both Breton and French dictionaries as synonymous of "crepe maker" ("krampouezherez" in Breton, "crêpière" in French).
