The 2012 Christmas special of Doctor Who is the sixth episode of the seventh series, due to air during Christmas 2012. It is to star Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor with Jenna-Louise Coleman and Will Mellor as the new companions,[4] following the departure of Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) in the previous episode.[5]

It is due to be set in Victorian times and guest stars Tom Ward and Richard E. Grant as the villain.[6]

Production

The Christmas Special was originally intended to be produced in the fourth production block of the series and be the first episode Coleman shot as her character;[7] however it did not begin filming until the week of 6 August 2012[8] after Coleman had worked on later episodes while Moffat was writing the Christmas special.[9] Scenes featuring Coleman and several guest stars in a Victorian setting were filmed in Newport, Wales,[10] while Coleman and Smith were also spotted filming in Bristol two weeks later on 21 August.[11]
