Harry Nicholas Arter (born 28 December 1989) is an English footballer of Irish descent, currently playing for Bournemouth.
Club career
Arter signed his first professional two year contract with Charlton Athletic in 2007.
He made his debut for Charlton at the age of 16 against Luton Town in the League Cup on 25 September 2006. In January 2009, Arter had a trial with Championship club, Ipswich Town. On 20 January 2009, Arter made an appearance for the Ipswich reserve team, against Northampton Town's reserve team. Northampton won the game 1–0, with Arter being one of two trialists – the other being former Fulham youngster, Lino Goncalves.
In the 2008–09 season, he had loan spells with Staines Town and Welling United but returned from the latter to finish the season at Charlton Athletic.
On 2 June 2009, Arter joined Woking on a one-year contract. At the end of the 2009–10 season, it was well documented that Arter would be leaving Woking, with several Football League clubs chasing Arter. Woking's website soon confirmed that Arter had agreed to sign for Bournemouth with the fee to be decided by an FA tribunal, as the two clubs could not agree a transfer fee.
Arter started in the Cherries' first match of the 2010–11 season away to Charlton but was replaced at half time by Michael Symes. Bournemouth lost the match 1–0. Arter's next start was against Torquay United in the Football League Trophy and was named as the man of the match despite the Cherries going down 3–0 on penalties.
In March 2011, Arter went on a one month loan to Carlisle United. He scored on his debut in their 4–3 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion in the ninetieth minute. This was cancelled out by Liam Bridcutt a minute later. Arter was recalled by the Cherries on 30 March.
International career
Arter has played for the Republic of Ireland under-17 and under-19 teams, being eligible through his grandparents.[2]
Personal life
He is the brother-in-law of professional football player Scott Parker.[3]
