Kutumba is a 2003 Kannada Action film starring Superstar Upendra and Natanya Singh. The film was directed by Naganna and produced by Shailendra Babu. Music for the film was scored by Gurukiran. It is the first among a series of successful films under Upendra - Naganna combination. The film also starred Ashok, Gurukiran, Advani Lakshmi Devi, Shwetha in supporting roles and B.C. Patil and Sathya Raj played the negative roles.[1] The film is a remake of the 1992 Tollywood film Gang Leader starring Chiranjeevi. Kutumba was one of the highest grossing Kannada films of 2003 and was also the first among Upendra's consecutive back to back blockbusters of the year.[2] The success of the film led to the release of two other successful films under Upendra - Naganna combination, namely Gokarna in 2003 and Gowramma in 2005.
Plot
The film starts as a simple family story of three brothers Vivek (Ashok), Vidhyadhar (Gurukiran) and Vijay (Upendra) along with their mother. Second brother Vidhyadhar is sent to study IAS and he comes back as DC and marries police officer Shekhar's (Sathyaraj) daughter Megha (Shwetha). In the mean time Kanyakumari (Natanya Singh) enters their home in an unusual circumstance. Later Shankar Patil's (B.C. Patil) gang murders elder brother Vivek as he was one of the witnesses to the murder of MLA Indumathi. From then on starts the saga of revenge.[1]

Box office
Kutumba was one of the highest grossing Kannada films of 2003 and was also the first among Upendra's consecutive back to back blockbusters of the year. It successfully completed 50 days in more than 17 centres across Karnataka and recorded 100 days in many centres across the state like Bangalore, Mysore, Davanagere, Shimoga, Mangalore, Hubli.[2] It also completed 125 days of run at its main center in Bangalore. The success of the film led to the release of two other successful films under Upendra - Naganna combination, namely Gokarna in 2003 and Gowramma in 2005.

Cancelled Sequel
After the huge success of Kutumba, producer Shailendra Babu had announced a sequel titled as Jai Ganesha having the same film troupe. But the sequel could not take off due to conflict between Shailendra Babu and Upendra. Upendra then gathered the same team of Kutumba (except the producer) and made Gokarna under his home banner Anegudda Vinayaka Productions[4].
