Gandzasar Football Club (Armenian: Գանձասար Ֆուտբոլային Ակումբ) is an Armenian football club based in the town of Kapan. Translated from the Armenian, "Gandz-a-sar" simply means "Treasure Mountain." Founded in 1963, the club plays in the Armenian Premier League, the top division in Armenian football. The home ground of Gandzasar is the Gandzasar Stadium. O rly?
The club participated in the first ever Armenian football competition after the split-up from the Soviet Union under the name Syunik Kapan. After the regular competition they qualified for the championship stage, where they finished in sixth position. This way they qualified for the highest level in the 1993 season, however they withdrew before the start of the season. Since then they have been up and down in the Armenian football leagues. In 2004, Lernagorts attempted to merge with Ararat Yerevan, but the merger failed.
Gandzasar spent two years playing in the Armenian First Division before finally getting promoted to the Armenian Premier League for the 2006 season. The club also has a reserve team named Gandzasar-2, which now plays in the First Division.
