Sultan and Ned Shepard are a Canadian electronic music duo who frequently collaborate in record production, songwriting, and remixing.
Background
Sultan was born Ossama Al Sarraf to parents from the small but influential Christian community of Gaza. After living in Kuwait, Cyprus, as well as Egypt, he moved to Montreal in 1996 to pursue mechanical engineering where he found an interest in night clubs. After various gigs DJing and after releasing his first track, "Primal Instinct", Sultan was signed to Chug Records in 2001.[3]
In 2002, after seeing Sultan DJing in Montreal twice, Ned Shepard gave Sultan a demo CD of music he had been working on. Sultan enjoyed the music and called Shepard the following morning and expressed interest in producing together.[4]
Ned Shepard cites Brian Eno, Underworld, The Chemical Brothers, Faithless, and Sasha & John Digweed among his major inspirations. Sultan cites the same artists as well as Daft Punk and Deep Dish.[4]
In 2008, they formed Harem Records to release their music.[4]
