Yash (born Naveen Kumar Gowda on 8 January 1986) is an Indian film actor who primarily works in Kannada films. Prior to films, he appeared in TV Tele-series in various channels.[1]

After acting in few Television serials, Yash made his on screen debut in a supporting role in Jambada Hudugi in 2007. His second film in 2008, Moggina Manasu in which he played the male lead role opposite Radhika Pandit emerged a commercial success. Yash went on to star in many commercially successful films such as Modalasala (2010), Rajadhani (2011), Kirataka (2011), Lucky (2012), Jaanu (2012), Drama (2012), and Googly (2013).

With a successful track record of hits, Yash has established himself as one of the bankable stars of Kannada Film Industry, with a huge fan base among youngsters and females and is emerging as the next big star of Sandalwood.

Personal life

Yash was born in Mysore, India as Naveen Kumar Gowda, after which his name was changed to Yash. He studied at Mahajana High School, in Mysore. He is the son of a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) employee and has a younger sister. He appeared in several tele-serials before becoming a full-fledged hero in Kannada movies. He is known in the Kannada film industry for his handsome looks and his dancing skills. He is often called as the "Rocking star" by his fans.[2]

Career

Early Career

Yash started his acting career with the Teleserial Nanda Gokula directed by Ashok Kashyap, which aired on ETV Kannada. He went on to perform in several other teleserials such as Malebillu and Preeti Illada Mele. His performance in Preeti Illada Mele was much appreciated. Yash stepped into the Kannada silver screen with a small role in the Priya Hassan directed movie Jambhada Hudugi in 2007. The movie went unnoticed by a large section of the audience. He then acted in Moggina Manasu directed by Shashank in 2008, where he was paired opposite his Nanda Gokula co-star Radhika Pandit. It was not a full fledged role, however the role brought him much recognition. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the movie. Yash then starred in lead roles in films like Rocky (2008), Kallara Santhe (2009), Gokula (2009) - all of which went unnoticed.

Rise To Stardom

In 2010, Yash starred in Modalasala which became his first commercial solo hit. Yash's performance in the lover boy role was well received. His next film was Rajadhani in 2011, which got a good opening and was a moderate success at the box office. The film's opening proved his newly found fan following. The same year, his next film Kirataka was a huge success and turned out to be his first Commercial Super Hit. Yash received positive reviews for his performance in the village comedy film. The film made Yash a popular star among the masses. In 2012 Yash had two major releases, Lucky (opposite Ramya) and Jaanu, both of which were much anticipated but met with mixed response, although commercially successful. His next film of the same year, The Romantic Comedy Drama directed by Yograj Bhat released with a grand opening and was a major commercial success. The film was declared as a blockbuster and was one of the major grossers of 2012. The film elevated Yash to Star Status and established a loyal youth fan following for the actor, including many female fans. His next movie Googly opposite Kriti Kharbanda and directed by Pawan Wadeyar released on 19'th July 2013. The film recorded a blockbuster opening and is emerging as a Super Hit at the box office. The film's opening proved that Yash has a huge fan base among the youngsters and is emerging as the next big star of Sandalwood.

Yash's upcoming films include Raja Huli (which is said to be on the lines of his earlier Super hit Kirataka) and Gajakesari (in which Yash has reportedly replaced Duniya Vijay to whom the film was first offered), both of which are highly anticipated and are set to release in 2014.

Controversy

Yash was accused of having cheated people who had invested in the chit fund business run by him and his family in his home town Paduvarahalli in Mysore, which he denied.[3] In 2013, Yash was involved in another controversy when Thimmappa Raju, the producer of his 2008 film, Rocky complained to the Karnataka Producers' Association (KPA) accusing Yash of not having returned the amount he had given to him as a remuneration for a new film, which never took off.[4]
