Template:ChineseText Kingsoft (Chinese: 金山软件; pinyin: jīnshān ruǎnjiàn; lit. 'Gold Mountain Software') is one of China's oldest software companies.[2] They have research and development centers in Zhuhai, Beijing, Chengdu, and Dalian. The company was historically focused on developing internet and Microsoft Windows-version systems, and a web browser known as Liebao. The company also worked on security software products with a more recent move towards internet-based applications, such as Kingsoft Kuaipan (a free cloud storage application running on multiple platforms).

History

Kingsoft was derived ca. 1988 from Hong Kong JinShan company, a manufacturer of IBM PCs, which was founded in 1973. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Kingsoft took part in research and development of word processors and other office applications, such as its flagship product Word Processing System 1.0, which appeared before Microsoft Office.[3] Today the latest version of this software is Kingsoft Office 2013, a free office software alternative to Microsoft Office, which includes Kingsoft Writer, Kingsoft Presentation, and Kingsoft Spreadsheet. Kingsoft has established collaborative relationships with Dell, Intel, and IBM.
