The Parhar are Rajputs, found in the Punjab province of Pakistan, and Sikh Rajputs/Sikh Jats in the Punjab state of India.

History and origin

The Parhar Rajputs claim descent from the Parihar/Pratihar Rajputs.[1] The Pratiharas were a medieval Indian dynasty, descended from the Gurajara- Pratihara tribe, which said to have invaded India, in the 5th Century.[2]

The Parhar Rajputs, are all that remains of the Pratihara presence in the Punjab. They were forced to migrate from south-central Asia in 3-4th century AD due to huna and other invasions. The detail about this is in ancient Chinese texts. There is an ancient Indian tradition from rajasthan that says all of these tribes were purified(accepted into the high caste fold) by Brahmin priests in a fire ceremony in Mt. Abu.

In the late 17th and early 18th centuries, during the time of Guru Gobind Singh, some of the Hindu Rajputs from Doaba region adopted a Sikh religion and joined the force of Guru Gobind Singh to fight against cruelty. One of the famous Hindu Rajputs who became the follower of Guru Gobind Singh was Sardar Banda Singh Bahadur, a fearless Hindu Rajput from Rajauri, J&K, India.
