Jesé with Gerard Deulofeu at the European Under-19 Championship

Jesé moved through the Spanish international youth setup, representing all sides between the under-16s and the under-20s. He made his debut with the former in 2009, and with the under-17 side, he reached the final in the 2010 UEFA European Football Championship.[2][3]

In the 2012 European Under-19 Championship held in Estonia, Jesé scored four goals only in the group stage, including an hat-trick in a 3–3 draw against Portugal on 6 July.[4] He netted his fifth in the final against Greece (1–0), and went on to be the top scorer of the tournament.[5]

Jesé scored five goals for the Spanish under-20 team at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey, in an eventual quarterfinal exit, and received the Bronze Shoe for the third best scorer of the tournament.[6]

Style of play

"I have liked a lot of players; the Brazilian Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, but my favourite is Cristiano Ronaldo. I like being compared to him. I love his drive. He never gets tired of scoring goals. He always wants more. There is only one Cristiano."

Jesé expressing his enjoyment, to be compared to Cristiano Ronaldo.[7]

Considered to be one of the most exceptional young talents around, Jesé can play from a midfield position (behind the striker) to a winger position, as well as a centre-forward.[1][8] He often starts as a left winger, but he is able to switch to a right side position as well as a center, allowing him a balance of goal scoring.[9]

Jesé is known for his trickery and ability to shoot with both feet. His quick feet and trickery bamboozles the defenders, and his pace provides him space and time to shoot.[10] Jesé has a similar playing style to his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo, loving to have the ball at his feet and taking on defenders.[11]

Three-time FIFA World Player of the Year winner Zidane declared himself an admirer of his direct football style, skill and goalscoring ability.[12]
