Kavanad is a major market town located at the northern suburb of Kollam City in Kerala, India. It is just 3 km from the port town of Sakthikulangara. Kavanad a narrow strip of land sandwiched between the Arabian Sea and the Ashtamudi Lake has one the highest land values in Kollam city. The town is all set to emerge as a shopping destination in future with the advent of shopping centers such as Fizakka Wedding center and few other shopping malls. Apart from Malls, many vehicle showrooms like Maruti, TATA,Force one are also located at Kavanad. The long anticipated Kollam Byepass starts just a kilometer before Kavanad from the place called Altharamoodu and once this road is commissioned, Kavanadu will be a major vantage point en route to Trivandrum from Alappuzha. A fast developing satelite city of Kollam and soon this city will merge as a part of Kollam town and will act as a gateway to Kollam City from north.

It is on National Highway 47 between Kollam and Karunagappally. Nearest railway station is Kollam Junction Railway Station.

Nearest airport is Thiruvanathapuram Airport around 80 km away.

Economy

Kavanad has a flourishing fish and sea food export/processing industry, due to its proximity to the Arabian Sea and Ashtamudi Lake. Mukkad Holy Family Church is the major church in Kavanad. Kavanad falls under the Kollam Corporation Circle. The people of kavanad majorly is occupied in fishing or fishing related businesses. A lot of people also travels abroad to gulf countries for better prospects.
