Jimmy "Jimbo" Wales (born August 8 1966) is an Internet entrepreneur, most famous for his founding, with Larry Sanger, of Wikipedia, an open content encyclopedia that draws its inspiration from the open source model and uses wiki software. He and Larry previously worked on the failed Nupedia encyclopedia project. He also founded the website Bomis, an Internet search portal which makes most of its money through the sale of erotic images, and Wikia, a wiki-style search engine.

Wales, an admirer of Ayn Rand, owned and moderated an internet mailinglist known as the "Moderated Discussion of Objectivist Philosophy", devoted to discussion Rand's philosophy.[1] He is married to Christine, who is half-Japanese, and has a daughter named Kira. He is also a firearms enthusiast.

Wales became famous after he co-founded Wikipedia on January 15, 2001. He is also the Wikipedia's designated agent. Wales has spent over $400,000 on Wikipedia and Nupedia, another online encyclopedia. [2] USA Today described him as an Internet luminary. [3]
