James McCall (born June 3, 1983), better known by his stage name Nocando, is a rapper from Los Angeles, California.[2] He is the 2007 Scribble Jam champion,[3] host of Low End Theory,[4] and founder of Hellfyre Club.[5] He is currently signed to Alpha Pup Records.[6]

History

Nocando first began battling in high school. He would go on to form a trio with high school friends Y-Not and A-ok known as The Weird People. He has stated that the name Nocando was inspired by this, as each of the three Weird People are named for common-use phrases; "No Can Do," "Why Not" and "A-Okay". Following graduation and introduction to Project Blowed, Nocando and The Weird People went on to co-found the group Customer Service along with fellow Project Blowedians Kail and Joe Sue. The group would later add SP83, Psychosiz and Choice Reason bringing its membership to eight.[7]

Nocando began gaining notoriety especially within the battle circuit with wins over what is believed to be hundreds of emcees.[8] Nocando has since focused on making and releasing music, only taking time out occasionally to battle.[6]

Nocando released the official debut album, Jimmy the Lock, on Alpha Pup Records in January 2010.[9] The album is produced by Thavius Beck, Nosaj Thing, Free the Robots, Daedelus, and Nicholas Thorburn, among others.[10] He released Sincerely Yours with Nobody as Bomb Zombies later that year.[11] In 2011, he released 10 Haters, a collaborative album with Busdriver as Flash Bang Grenada,[12] which was listed by the Alarm magazine as one of "50 Unheralded Albums from 2011".[13]

Nocando released the free EP, Zero Hour, in January 2012.[14] He released "Where's the Money?" in September,[15] and "Up in the Air" in December 2012.[16] He is currently working on his second solo album, Jimmy the Burnout.[17]
