Fatimah Rohani binti Ismail (born 27 March 1992), professionally known as Emma Maembong,[1] is a Malaysian actress and a model. She is best known as Munirah in Kau Yang Terindah.
Career
Emma actually combined her name with her father's name, Ismail Embong [2] for her commercial name. Previously, Emma has acted in a TV Alhijrah drama, Facebook Ustazah Shamsiah, directed by Erma Fatimah as a school student.[3] Emma gained the trust of Erma Fatimah again and was awarded the role of Munirah in Kau Yang Terindah. According to Emma, that was her first time portraying a character such as Munirah, who is a very challenging character (the woman who is stuck with her lover). After her acting stint on Kau Yang Terindah on 2012 , her name became more popular after that.[4] Although she was only acting as a side character, she gained a fanbase due to her Pan-Asian looks. However, she received a lot of flack on the quality of her acting. Emma accepted the criticism with an open heart and promised to enhance her acting skills because it was her very first drama and she had no prior experience in acting.[5]
Early life
Emma is the ninth child of eleven siblings. [6] Her father is Malay and her mother is Scottish.[7] Her parents are divorced and Emma chose to live with her father. Emma's father is a Malaysia painter [8] and she also followed her father's footsteps and has a talent in drawing. She has contributed her own works of art to be displayed at their own family gallery called Maembong Art's Gallery.[9] Emma's younger sister Cha Cha Maembong and older sister Yaya Maembong are also actresses. [10]
Education
Emma only attended school until Form 2, and was subsequently home-schooled. Despite getting a lot of criticism, Emma explained that she actually chose to do so because she has a younger brother at home who is unable to walk.[11] However, that did not affect her studies, although she pleaded not to take Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (Certificate of Education Malaysia) (SPM) because she wanted to follow her father's footsteps.[12]
