The Qalamoun Mountains are a mountain range in western Syria, north of the capital Damascus. It is near the border of Lebanon.

The Qalamoun Mountains

Cherubim Monastery

One of the most popular destinations in the Qalamoun Mountains is the Cherubim Monastery, which is situated on highest peak of the eastern stretch of the mountains. The monastery is perched at over 2000 meters above sea level.[1]

The monastery was built in the 5th century AD. Unfortunately, today only the white stones and olive trees remain of the original structure. A church dedicated to the Virgin Mary is situated near the ruins of the monastery. It provides accommodations for monks and visitors.
