Casting

Idea Of P.K came To Hirani's mind during shooting Of 3Idiots, which he narrated to Aamir and he really liked it and told Hirani To Complete It's Story. Hirani cast Sushant Singh Rajput after Kai Po Che director Abhishek Kapoor showed him Rajput's rushes.[5][6] Veteran actor Sanjay Dutt was also cast in the film, with an unnamed source saying that Dutt would be performing a pivotal role.[7] Anushka Sharma, Ram Sethi, and Aamir Khan were all confirmed to be performing in the film, with Khan stated to be portraying lead character P.K.[8][9][10] Arshad Warsi was briefly rumoured to be involved with the film, which he later denied, stating that while he had been offered a role in the film, he had turned it down due to scheduling issues.[11] Rumours also stated that Hirani had approached Imran Khan, which Hirani also denied.[12]

Filming

Co-director Khan began looking for shooting locations in July 2012.[13] Second unit filming was set to begin in late 2012,[14] which was stalled after the rumoured departure of three department heads for the film and bad weather stalling initial shoots.[15][16] Hirani denied rumours that the film would be delayed, stating that principal filming had always been intended to begin in mid-January 2013 in Delhi and Rajasthan to "capture the winter of Delhi".[17][18] Shooting officially began on 1 February 2013,[19] with the filming[20] scheduled to occur over a 45-day period.[21] Some of the scenes were shot in the famous historical city of Bruges, Belgium, from 10 to 19 June 2013.A 26-day schedule in of shooting of P.K started in national capital Delhi from 27 September 2013.[22][23][24] When the shoot of the film was going on in Chandni Chowk area of Delhi, an FIR was lodged against makers of the film for hurting religious sentiments of people in October 2013. [25]

Soundtrack

Shantanu Moitra who has earlier worked with Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan in 3 Idiots (2009), has been roped in to compose songs for this film.
