Jessie Burton is an English actress and author.

Career

Burton studied at Oxford University and the Central School of Speech and Drama,[1] where she appeared in productions of The House of Bernarda Alba, Othello, Play and Macbeth. In April 2013, her first novel, The Miniaturist, was sold at an 11-publisher auction at the London Book Fair, and went on to sell in 29 other countries around the world. It will be published by Picador in the UK and Holland in July 2014, and the USA in August 2014. Other translations to follow. Radio 4 have commissioned it as their Book at Bedtime in July 2014. It tells the story of a wealthy, dysfunctional family living in 1686 Amsterdam, under the watchful eye of a mysterious miniaturist. She is currently writing her second novel.

Burton's work in theatre includes: Persuasion at the Salisbury Playhouse, Welcome to Thebes, Twelfth Night, Present Laughter, Time and the Conways and The Hour We Knew Nothing Of Each Other[2] at the National Theatre, London; Twelfth Night at Donmar Warehouse, The Revenger's Tragedy at Southwark Playhouse, London; The Silver Age for Shakespeare's Globe, London; The Wonder! A Woman Keeps a Secret! at the White Bear, London and BAC, London; The Apathists at Theatre 503, London; The B File and The Rover at the Etcetera, London; Prometheus Bound at Sound Theatre; The Glass Menagerie at The Old Fire Station, Oxford and Much Ado About Nothing at Oxford Playhouse.

Television

On television she has appeared in The Wild House for the BBC.

Radio

In radio, she appeared in a radio adaptation of The Wonder for BBC Radio 4.
