A Fluffernutter is a sandwich made with peanut butter and Marshmallow Fluff, a brand of marshmallow creme. Purists do not allow another brand to be substituted. The use of Wonder Bread is also favored.

Variations of this recipe include added bananas, honey, graham crackers, M&M's, or any other treat that can be served with peanut butter.

"Fluffernutter" is a registered trademark of Durkee-Mower Inc., the maker of "Marshmallow Fluff" brand marshmallow cream. In 2006, Durkee-Mower sued Williams-Sonoma Inc. in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, alleging that Williams-Sonoma was selling a marshmallow and peanut butter chocolate-covered candy under the "Fluffernutter" name.

Fluffernutter was also the name of a candy briefly produced by the Boyer Brothers candy company.

Recently, the serving of Fluffernutter sandwiches in schools have come under fire by Massachusetts Senator Jarrett T. Barrios, who has proposed an amendment to a bill limiting junk food in schools that will severely restrict or ban the serving of Fluffernutter sandwiches in school cafeterias in Massachusetts. [1]
