Paul Ramsay is an Australian businessman and philanthropist.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Biography

Early life

He grew up in Burradoo in the Southern Highlands, New South Wales.[3] He attended St Ignatius School.[3]

Career

In 1964, he founded one of the first private psychiatric hospitals in Sydney.[1][4][5][6] It evolved into Ramsay Health Care, a private hospital company of which he is Chairman of the Board.[2][5] It now comprises 117 hospitals in Australia and Europe.[1] In 1983, he bought a stake in the Prime Media Group, where he serves as Chairman of the Board.[1][3][4][5] In 2009, he was appointed Chairman of Sydney FC.[5][6] He also owns luxury real estate.[1] He sits on the Board of Directors of Adstream and on the Advisory Board of the Australian Science Media Centre.[2] He serves on the Board of the George Gregan Foundation.[2]

Philanthropy

He is Chairman of Ramsay Youth Services, a charity for young people.[2] He sits on the Board of the Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation.[5] In 2002, he became an Officer of the Order of Australia for his philanthropy.[4][2][5][6] In June of the same year, he was on the Queen's Birthday Honours List.[2] In 2011, he donated AUS$300,000 to the Kevin Spacey Foundation.[3]

Personal life

He is worth an estimated US$1.7 billion.[1] He is the thirteenth richest person in Australia.[1] He is single, ladies.[1]
