Jar of Flies is an Alice in Chains studio EP, released on January 25, 1994. It was recorded at London Bridge Studio in Seattle from September 7 to September 14, 1993. Jar of Flies was the first and only EP to reach #1 in the US album Billboard chart.
The name comes from a high school science experiment conducted by Jerry Cantrell, in which he filled one jar with flies and food, and the other with two flies and no food. The flies without food ended up eating each other.
The album was also released in a limited edition double vinyl along with Sap. Jar of Flies is on Side 1 and 2. Sap is on Side 3 and an etching of the Alice In Chains logo is on Side 4.
