Rajinder Gupta (Punjabi- ਰਾਜਿੰਦਰ ਗੁਪਤਾ)(Hindi- राजिंदर गुप्ता), born on January 2, 1959, is Chairman of TridentGroup, a business conglomerate headquartered in Ludhiana, Punjab, India. He also serves as the Chairman of the Corporate Advisory Board of Trident Limited. Under his management, the group has achieved a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 30%. TridentGroup primarily deals in Home Textiles, Paper Manufacturing, Chemicals and Power. They are one of the largest yarn spinners in India, one of the world’s largest terry towel manufacturers and the world’s largest wheat straw based paper manufacturer.[1]

In 2007, he received the prestigious Padma Shri Award from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the then President of India in recognition of distinguished service in the field of Trade and Industry.[2]

Business career

He took his first leap into entrepreneurship in 1985 when he started the business of chemicals and fertilizers with an investment of INR 6.5 crore. It was the year 1990, when the business diversified into yarn, paper and terry towels. With an annual compounded growth of 35 per cent in sales over the last 10 years, the TridentGroup has also adopted quite a few modern and eco-friendly practices under the leadership of Mr. Gupta. He has led the Group to successfully execute projects worth INR 36000 million over last 5 years.[3]

A first generation entrepreneur and possessing over 3 decades of industry experience, Mr. Gupta has rich and varied exposure to promoting industrial ventures holding Directorship of various companies. He is also the Vice Chairman of CII Punjab State Council for 2006-07, Director of Punjab Technical University and Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training.[4]

Besides being member of several trade and management bodies, he is also actively associated with several philanthropic ventures.[5]
