Ravens Wood School, located in Keston, London Borough of Bromley, England, is an all-boys school. The Sixth Form accepts both boys and girls. As of 2009 the school had 1,450 pupils. The school is a designated technology college, specialising in Design Technology and Information Technology. The school became an academy on 1 April 2011.[1]

Ms Colette Singleton is the Principal.[2]

Ofsted

The June 2013 Ofsted inspection stated that the school "requires improvement" in many critical areas, and will therefore be subject to further monitoring visits.[3] The publication of the June 2013 Ofsted inspection was strangely postponed until 17 September 2013, which is especially unusual since school reports are usually released by Ofsted after just two weeks. In response to the aforementioned Ofsted report, the school decided to lodge a complaint against the inspection team. However, this was quickly dismissed on the grounds of being "wholly unfounded ... and without any discernible substance". Ravens Wood School had previously received an inspection rating of "Outstanding" in 2007. Although that rating was received prior to details of shocking scandals - revealing grave cases of corruption involving senior managers working at the school. A separate investigation led by Edexcel into examination mark fixing at the school, discovered severe cases of malpractice.[4]

Sport

In May 2007 the Year 10 football squad won the English Schools' Football Association Under 15 Schools' Cup.[5]

Drama

The school has achieved success in the Rock Challenge dance/drama competition having won the Southern Premier league three years in a row which is the first time ever to happen in Rock Challenge (2008,2009,2010)[6][7] and also came second in the first ever Rock Challenge National Final (2009). It is thought to be the first boys' school in the UK to take the prestigious contemporary dance drama title.[8]

Notable alumni

Custom and Classic Car Show

Ravens Wood School is home to South East England's largest independent car show, RWS Car Show. It has been held since 1981 when a group of students decided to show off their own cars, one of which was a Volkswagen Beetle, which was adopted as the show's logo. It attracts over 400 cars. It is currently held on the Fathers' Day weekend.[15]
