GHI Media LLC, trading as Devolver Digital, is an American video game publisher and film distributor that is primarily associated with the Serious Sam series. Based in Austin, Texas,[1] the company was founded by Mike Wilson, Harry Miller, and Rick Stults, three of the founders of Gathering of Developers and Gamecock.[2] Championing the independent video game scene and culture, the company's focus has turned to nurturing relationships with indie developers and helping to distribute their games across multiple platforms and digital outlets.[3] At SXSW 2013, Devolver announced the company's plans to open its film distribution arm, "Devolver Digital Films." Aimed at helping indie filmmakers digitally distribute and promote their films, Devolver is actively seeking completed and near-completed projects for release under the "Devolver Digital Films" banner.[4]

Transition to indie game distribution

After Serious Sam 3, Devolver experimented with the idea of shifting its focus toward indie game development.[5] Using the Serious Sam series as a test bed for smaller high-concept titles, Devolver worked with indie developer Vlambeer to create Serious Sam: The Random Encounter. Since then, the Devolver has continued this approach toward indie developers and has gone on to work with, most notably, Dennaton Games to publish Hotline Miami.[6] The title went on to receive critical praise and appeared on many "Best of 2012" lists.[7][8][9] As of February 2013, Hotline Miami has sold 300,000 copies.[10] Hotline Miami was released on Sony's Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita in June 2013. Devolver's latest published title is Vlambeer's 1940's themed shoot 'em up, LUFTRAUSERS, which was released on Playstation 3, Playstation Vita, and PC on March 18, 2014.

Expansion into film distribution

Announced at 2013's SXSW, Devolver Digital Films is being spearheaded by Mike Wilson and partner Andie Grace, both experienced and PR-savvy filmmakers and industry insiders. Citing the lack of support for indie filmmakers at the point of distribution in a film's production, Devolver aims "to be that much needed second or third wind to truly find an audience" for a film and its creators.[11] Employing the same approach to film distribution as with game publishing, Devolver's ambition is "to apply that same fiercely creative devotion to indie filmmakers and their projects."

Devolver Digital Films is currently seeking completed and near-completed projects to help promote and distribute across various cable VODs and digital releases channels.[12]
