Cory Mitchell Mazzoni (born October 19, 1989) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the San Diego Padres' farm system.
Mazzoni graduated from Seneca Valley High School in Harmony, Pennsylvania. After graduating, he enrolled at North Carolina State University (NC State), where he played college baseball for the NC State Wolfpack baseball team.[1][2]
The New York Mets selected Mazzoni in the second round of the 2011 MLB Draft.[3] Pitching for the Binghamton Mets of the Class AA Eastern League in 2013, Mazzoni had a 4.36 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 66 innings pitched.[4] His 2013 season ended prematurely when he required surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee.[5]
The Mets invited Mazzoni to spring training in 2014.[6] On March 18, they assigned him to minor league camp.[7] He played for the Las Vegas 51s of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League that year. After the 2014 season, the Mets added Mazzoni to their 40-man roster to protect him from being eligible in the Rule 5 draft.[8]
On March 30, 2015, the Mets traded Mazzoni and a player to be named later to the San Diego Padres for Alex Torres.[9]
He was prmoted to the major leagues on April 26 2015.
