Fabio Rosati is a board member at Upwork. He is the former CEO of the online work platform Elance-oDesk (now Upwork), a global online staffing platform.[1][2][3] Rosati is an expert on online work,[4] the freelance economy,[5] and online staffing.[1]

Education and career

Originally from Florence, Italy, Rosati relocated to the United States to attend Georgetown University.[6] Rosati joined Gemini Consulting in its early days and stayed with the company until it was acquired and became part of Capgemini. Rosati became the Chief Executive Officer at Elance in 2001. He sold the first version of Elance, a vendor management system for large enterprises, in 2006 and used some of the proceeds to launch the current version of Elance, an online staffing platform currently growing at 50% per year.[2][1] Among the largest and fastest growing companies in the online work industry,[7] Elance allows businesses to find, hire, manage and pay freelancers. As of 2013, Elance has over 3 million users, represented by 800,000 businesses hiring and 2.8 million registered freelancers,[8] earning over $300 million each year.[3] In 2013 Rosati was an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist.[9]

Rosati is a thought leader on the growing online labor market. His commentary in this area has appeared in publications including The Wall Street Journal,[10] Forbes,[11] Fortune,[12] Inc.,[13] and The New York Times.[14] He also has appeared on numerous TV and radio shows including NPR,[5] Fox News,[15] ABC News,[12] CNBC[16] and Bloomberg TV.[12]
