Nayah
Nayah, whose real name is Sylvie Mestre, is a French singer.
Career
Nayah launched her music career after six years of studies to the musical academy and dramatic art of Perpignan. She knew a certain celebrity in 1999 while being elected representing France for the contest of Eurovision with Jerusalem. Before going to the Eurovision Contest, attention was given to her in the French press when her relationship with the International Raelian Movement was revealed. Nayah entered the International Raelian Movement following her husband, and she had climbed the Guide levels until becoming there assistant guide (Level 3) - this after having published a first disc in 1988 which took again the set of themes of Raelians. Although the singer affirmed to have left the International Raelian Movement since 1996, she followed a mobilization of associations anti-International Raelian Movements fearing that a victory offers a platform a little too visible with the International Raelian Movement and a certain media beating. Nayah was not however prohibited to take part in the contest, where she ranked 19 out of 22. She has since returned the International Raelian Movement. Nayah's return was quoted by the International Raelian Movement several times to point out the ostracism she had been facing and continued to face. In attempt to reverse this situation, an electronic book called Proud to be Raelian was published in 2005[1]. A source alleges that Nayah confirmed that she had forever quit the International Raelian Movement. This source was fabricated in totality by the producer and his agent to occult the adherence of Nayah to the International Raelian Movement. Nayah made a testimony on the subject which is printed on page 145-146 of the book “Proud to be Raëlian”:
In the beginning, when these damages started, my producer George Mary and my agent, Jacques Marouani, proposed to me to declare with the press which I was not active any more in International Raelian Movement, in order to devote me to my career, and to calm the things. Terrible decision which I have of taking with against heart. Some articles of press showed the declarations which I had learned by heart. But the whole of the press refused to believe in it. And she is easy to imagine for an industry who nourishes contreverse and sensationalism. - Nayah[2]
