Grand Manan Island has a maximum length of about 26 km (16 mi) and an area of 137 sq km (53 sq mi). It is in Charlotte County, southwest New Brunswick, Canada, in the Bay of Fundy, approximately 15 Km (9 mi) from the easternmost point of the United States.

Settled in the late 18th century, Grand Manan was claimed by the United States until 1817, when it was traded to the British for Moose, Frederick and Dudley islands in Passamaquoddy Bay, Maine.

The economy of the island is based chiefly on summer tourism and fishing. The principal settlements are North Head, Woodwards Cove, Grand Harbour, and Seal Cove.
