Farshid Delshad (Persian: فرشید دلشاد ) is an Iranian linguist and author. He was Lecturer of Persian and Comparative Linguistics at University of Freiburg[1] and at University of Bern.[2] From 1997, he spent several years in Caucasus and the Russian Federation and focused on empirical linguistics, Caucasian, Slavic, and Semitic linguistics. Delshad's first academic thesis at Tbilisi State University in 2000 deals with comparative linguistics.[3] He then moved to Germany, where he studied at Friedrich-Schiller University as a postdoc in Oriental linguistics. Delshad's latter works however, focus on Iranian-Semitic and Caucasian philological contacts, and paremiology.[4] He translated The Knight in the Panther's Skin into Farsi for the first time, a Georgian medieval epic poem[5]. He won Georgian state prize in the fields of literature on behalf of president Eduard Shevardnadze.

Delshad has furthermore training in German and Indo-Germanic linguistics. Since 1994 he has worked as a scholar of Iranian and comparative linguistics in Iran, Russia, Georgia, Ireland, Germany,[6] United States, and Switzerland.[7] Farshid Delshad has contributed to minority research,[8] namely religious [9] and ethnic populations in the Islamic World.[10] He has also written extensively on Intercultural Communication and Sufism.[11] Delshad is among few Iranian philologists of the relatively new generation who showed special interests in Historical-Comparative Linguistics, and focused on linguistic and etymological interactions between Caucasian and Iranian languages. Farshid Delshad accordingly followed academic challenges of European philologists like Heinrich Hübschmann, Nicholas Marr and Jost Gippert who explored and investigated the possible genetic and structural similarities between Kartvelian and Iranian languages, based on empirical linguistics and etymological researches. He is also a translator of Russian, Arabic, German, French, and Georgian literary works to Persian and vice versa.[12]
