Haji Backpacker is a 2014 Indonesian film directed by Danial Rifki and released on October 2, 2014. The film, based on the novel of the same name by Aguk Irawan, stars Abimana Aryasatya, Dewi Sandra, Laudya Cynthia Bella, Laura Basuki, Pipik Dian Irawati, Ray Sahetapy, Dion Wiyoko, and Kenes Andari.

Synopsis

Mada (Abimana Aryasatya) rebels against God, because his mother was dead and also lost his love. He is angry and decides to become a backpacker and has a free living. He abandons God, family, and friends. Physically he finds happiness, but feels empty spiritually.[1]

At this kind of frailty moment, God calls him back through a series of events. Wandering from one country to another, reveals his consciousness one by one, Mada becomes aware that God actually loves and always cares him.

Filming process

This film that just do filming in five countries in Asia: China, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, India, and Iran, has now finally returned to Indonesia to continue the process of shooting at several places in the country. Many stories came when film director, Danial Rifki, was filmed in five countries.[2]

"I did not fully follow the shooting in all countries, but, I follow the full fitting recce and saw cultures differing in each country, opens horizons and new horizons for me. In the religion was recommended to us traveling once a year in order to enjoy the natural beauty God's creation. I'm really excited seen acting of Mr. Naveen (Executive Producer) as Interrogators of Iran in this film, his acting debut."[2]

Filming in 5 different countries is not easy, a lot of processes that must be passed. One of them is a permit filming, but it can be passed by Haji Backpacker' team.[2]

"Little by little has been somewhat relieved. Of all the countries of the most difficult in India and Vietnam, in India alone, there are 10 types of permits that must be resolved from the I&B ministry, Dargah Syarief, policeman, Railway station, Insurance, Municipal, and others. While other difficulties such as weather, language and differences in customs/culture can be adjusted."[2]

This film hereafter heading 3 final destination: Vietnam, Tibet, and Nepal, to complete the process of shooting.[2]
