Danny Lopez (born May 1974) is the current British Consul General to New York[1] and Director General of UK Trade & Investment in the United States. Lopez was appointed in July 2011.[2][3]

Career Overview

From 2006 to 2009, Lopez served as Managing Director, Marketing & Communications at UK Trade & Investment, where he was responsible for delivering a new marketing strategy to promote the UK economy internationally.[2] Previously, Lopez worked at Barclays Bank for ten years, where he held a number of senior international positions, including: Head of Global Inward Investment in London, Director of Business Banking USA in New York and Business Development Director in India.[4]

From 2009 to 2011, Lopez worked for the London Development Agency, the Mayor of London’s economic development arm, as Group Director for Business Support and International Promotion.[2] During this time, Lopez was responsible for creating London & Partners, London's promotional agency for business, visitors and students and was its first Chief Executive Officer.

In December 2014, Lopez hosted TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during their visit to New York.[5][6]

In his role in New York, Lopez actively promotes the expansion of high-tech US startups into the UK,[7][8] and facilitates collaboration between the tech industries of the two countries.[9]

In August 2011, Danny Lopez became an honorary trustee for BAFTA New York. In addition, since November 2013 Lopez has also been a Fellow at the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce (RSA).[10]

Personal

Born in England and brought up in Spain, Lopez holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in economics and a master's degree in international economics and finance from the University of Essex[2] and is fluent in both English and Spanish.[4] In 2012 he married his Australian fiancée, Susan Grieve.[11][12]
