Man drives SUV into tram tunnel

A man accidentally drives his SUV into the tram (technically premetro) tunnel entrance on the Albertlaan / Avenue Albert. According to the man, his satnav told him to keep going left (the Albertlaan curves leftward and has several sideways). On his left he saw a tunnel entrance, but due to darkness and rain he didn't notice it was a tram tunnel until it was too late. He says he considered going back, but opted to hope for a tunnel exit that would take him topside.

Immediately afterwards, tram 4 followed him into the tunnel, so going back would have involved driving in reverse on the left track.

This is the entry to the tunnel. I guess the pole that prevents access must have been retracted / missing. (There's an earlier access point to the tram tracks, but you cannot see it leads to a tunnel from there.)

The article shows a different entrance, but it seems at first glance inconsistent with reports of the car driving through Albert station.

Here's security camera footage of the event, starting with the view from inside the tunnel entrance:

It is reported that the man was drunk at the time: http://archive.is/ZWPcL#32% (source: [1]) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.139.82.82 (talk) 12:49, 24 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
