Clayton Geathers (born June 1, 1992) is an American football strong safety for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at UCF, and was drafted by the Colts in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
High school & college
Geathers attended and played at Carvers Bay High School and help them advance to the Lower State Championship two consecutive years (2007-2008).[1] Geathers was selected to the all-state team twice as a defensive back in 2009 and as a running back in 2008.
Geathers was selected to the All-American Athletic Conference Second Team, Sporting News All-American Athletic Conference Team and Phil Steele's Postseason All-American Athletic Conference Second Team in his junior season.[1]
Geathers finished third in tackles in University of Central Florida football history with 383 tackles. As a redshirt freshman in 2011, Geather had 67 tackles, the following year as a sophomore had 117 tackles, then as a redshirt junior 100 tackles, and then in his last season Geathers tallied 97 tackles. Geathers also started in 52 games out of a total of 53 games he played in college.
Professional career
At the NFL Combine, Geathers was measured at 6'2" and weighed in at 218lbs and declared a Strong Safety. Geathers was a top performer in every event for his position. He ran a 4.55 40 yard dash, and was a top performer in the bench press (#2 at the position for 22 reps) the broad jump (tied for #8 for the position at 10 feet), the 3 cone drill (#15 at the position at 7.21 seconds), 20 yard shuttle (#12 for position at 4.27 seconds), the 60 yard shuttle (#12 for position at 12.57 seconds) for the strong safety position.
Indianapolis Colts
Geathers was drafted in the fourth round (109th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts.[2] He agreed to terms with the Colts on May 6.[3]
Personal
Geathers is the cousin of Orlando Predators defensive end Jeremy Geathers, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Clifton Geathers, free agent defensive end Robert Geathers, and former UCF safety Jarvis Geathers.[4]
