Amity University Kolkata is a prestigious private university in Kolkata in the state of West Bengal, India. It was founded in 2015 and is the eighth university to be established by the Amity University Group.

History

The Amity Group's presence in Kolkata began at the end of 2006 as Amity Global Business School (Salt Lake, Sector V) that offered only management degrees under Amity University. In 2015, the state legislature of West Bengal passed the Amity University Act, 2014 (West Bengal Act, XXIV of 2014) to enable the establishment of the university in Rajarhat. Classes commenced on 31 August 2015. It is the eighth university to be established by the Amity group, which also established Amity University, Mumbai in 2014.

Recognition and accreditation

Amity University Kolkata (West Bengal) is recognized by the University Grants Commission of India.

Amity University Kolkata has "Grade A" accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.

Programmes

Amity University Kolkata offers undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral degrees. Courses are run by constituent institutes and schools situated on its campus. Amity University, Kolkata is currently offering programs in the field of management, engineering, bio-technology, applied sciences, forensic sciences, environment, medical and allied health sciences, nursing, journalism and mass communications, liberal arts, computer science, foreign language, law, architecture, medical, commerce, economics, fashion, fine arts, hotel management both at undergraduate and post graduate levels, besides offering doctoral degrees in many of these disciplines.

Research centres

The university has 11 research centres in bio-design, computer graphics, decisions and ethics, design research, information technology, financial analytics, robotics, computer research in music and acoustics, humanities, language and information, applied & behavioural sciences.

Collaboration

Amity University Kolkata has tie-ups with over 100 international universities, laboratories and research sentres in areas of student exchange, faculty exchange, joint research, curriculum development and educational tours for students. It has tie-ups with Stanford University, Harvard University, Yale University, Oxford University etc.

Schools

Amity University Kolkata has more than 25 schools in its campus, including Amity Business School, Amity School of Engineering & Technology, Amity Law School and Amity Institute of Biotechnology.

Inauguration

Amity University Kolkata was inaugurated on 16 February 2016 by West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the launching ceremony of Utkarsh Bangla. The venue had 20,000 people (approx) where the CM also spoke about Amity University's collaboration with the government.
